Our practice

Forty years of careful advice for a small group of clients.

For four decades, Riverstone Wealth has done one thing — the slow, careful work of helping a small group of families think clearly about money. We are not a sales firm. We do not run model portfolios that look the same for everyone. We sit with clients across a kitchen table, work through the numbers, and produce advice that holds up over years rather than quarters.

The practice was founded by Imogen Hartley in 1985 as a one-person actuarial-and-planning shop. It has stayed deliberately small. Most of our clients have been with us for more than a decade; some for thirty years. The work we do for them now is rarely about their first investment — it is about how their wealth passes to the next generation, how their retirement income holds against a long life, and how the structures we set up early continue to serve them as life changes.

We write everything down. We show our workings. We charge a clear, transparent fee that is unrelated to the assets we manage. We believe a good adviser leaves a paper trail their client can follow without needing the adviser in the room.

What we do

Services, in plain English.

A short list, done well. Each piece below is work we have done weekly for forty years.

01

Retirement income planning

Producing a sustainable, tax-efficient income that lasts. We model your circumstances against long-life and sequencing-risk scenarios, write down the assumptions, and review annually as conditions change.

02

Investment management

Bespoke portfolios built around your goals, time horizons, and tax position. We invest in instruments we understand and can explain — predominantly index funds, gilts, and a small allocation to active strategies where they earn their cost.

03

Estate and legacy planning

How your wealth passes — to family, to spouses, to charity. Structured early, reviewed often. Wills, trusts, lifetime gifts, and the conversations with the next generation that make the planning hold up.

If a recommendation does not pass the read-aloud test, we have more work to do.
